Nista Nije Nista

Behind the already melodious name Nista Nije Nista hides an international all-female gang of four, whose members stem from Croatia, Australia, Austria and Germany. Nista Nije Nista play a highly ambitious game with sounds and language. Among their instruments are voices, two computers, two sewing machines and saxophone. The real quality of these sound-sketches lies in their tentative moves, the atmospheric distortions, the shreds of saxophone-sounds. A very sensual music, without the intellectual burden of the 'experiment'.

Nightingales

In 1976 singer Robert Lloyd and guitarist Alan Apperley formed The Prefects, Birmingham's first punk group. The band were part of The Clash's 'White Riot' tour, championed by John Peel and aquired legendary status, partly because they never released a record until they had split up. Since then interest has been of such that Rough Trade Records released a single, Peel's Strange Fruit label a 12' EP, Acute Records of NYC a retrospective compilation plus there has been a 'Live In 1978' CD.

Markku Peltola

Have you met Markku Peltola? No?! Well, maybe you have but cannot remember. Which is probably his problem as well, at least according to the script - Peltola played the main character in Aki Kaurismäki's prize-winning film "The Man Without A Past". After having been beaten up and proclaimed D.O.A., a man simply named "M" gets up from his hospital bed and walks out into the world just like that.

Glassglue

Danceable harshness, ordinary sadness, sophisticated elegance

Formed in London in 2003, glassglue present their first album, Fantods, on the German label Klangbad after ten years of live performances. Label-founder Hans-Joachim Irmler discovered the band in 2010 playing their regular slot in London’s legendary blues and punk venue, the 12 Bar Club.

Faust

If faust announce a last record then it might be a good idea to open up the ears, especially when the cover art of the new & last record is one big reference to their first record. The x-rayed "fist" appears again, this time with the fingers slightly more opened. 40 years lie between the two records. 40 years of many different line ups, record companies, financial disasters, artistic failures and successes. Whatever can happen to a band has happened to Faust. In that sense they are not an unusual group of musicians.

Hans-Joachim Irmler

How do you squeeze the life and achievements of someone like Hans-Jochim Irmler, a pioneer of krautrock, electronic music and sound experiments into one A4 sheet? But as the late great Sun Ra (also a great explorer of sound and an “organic” soulmate of Irmler’s) once said: “Man has tried the possible – and was has it lead to? So now it’s time to try the impossible.” (- which is also an apt motto for Irmler’s life and work.) Anyway, here we go:

Fifty-Fifty

FIFTY-FIFTY’s music is based on the idea of reduction: just two musicians. The music itself is boiled down to melody and rhythm. Thus they create space and transparency. The instruments are a piccolo drum kit consisting of a small drum, bass drum, cymbals and an afuché-shaker as hi-hat, plus toy piano and whistle. On top, soprano or tenor saxophone. Kniel drums with machine-like precision, weaving polymetric rhythms into acoustic loops. His circular-repetitive patterns arise from a deep calm: Zen-drumming in a highly complex simplicity.
