Christine Edwards und Emily Manzo sind Veteranen der New Yorker/Brooklyn Musik Szene.
2007 veröffentlichten sie ihr Debut-Album "Gueen´s Head" auf dem Social Registry Label. Dieser Veröffentlichung folgte eine Tour als Support der britischen Kult-Band The Nightingales, was dazu führte, dass sie im Jahr 2009 ihr zweites Album names "Superstition" auf dem Label BIG PRINT des Nightingales Sängers Robert Loyd veröffentlichten. Aus dieser Kollaboration ergab sich dann die Zusammenkunft mit Hans Joachim Irmler, dem legendären Organisten der deutschen Krautrock Veteranen Faust. (Hintergrund: Die Nightingales hatten 2009 ein Album auf Irmler´s Label Klangbad veröffentlicht).
Das dritte Album "No Rest" wurde dann in Irmler´s Faust Studios aufgenommen und produziert und auf dem Klangbad Label im Jahr 2010 veröffentlicht.
2011 kehrten Christy&Emily wieder in die Faust Studios nach Deutschland zurück, um ihr neues Album aufzunehmen. Dieses mal zusammen mit dem Bassspieler Peter Kerlin und der Schlagzeugerin Kristin Müller. Daraus entstanden ist das vierte Album, welches im Februar 2012 veröffentlicht wird.
Christine Edwars lernte im jungen Alter von 16 Jahren das Gitarren spielen mit Hilfe eines Metallica "Ride The Lightning" Tabulatur Buchs. In den letzten Jahren spielte sie Gitarre und Schlagzeug in unterschiedlichsten Projekten und Bands wie z.B. The Lil Fighters, the Sumerians, The Totallys, und auch bei den Nightingales. Außerdem unterrichtet sie "Song Writing" in einem Ganztages-Schul Programm. Ihre Animationsvideos für Christy&Emily wurden auf The Fader und Tiny Mix Tapes Webseiten veröffentlicht.Ihre Zeichnungen wurden u.a. ausgestellt und verkauft auf der Scope Art Fair in New York.
Kyle Gann von der Village Voice bezeichnete Emily Manzo als "dynamite young pianist" und die New York Times lobte einer ihrer jüngsten Auftritte mit den Worten " Manzo´s Aufmerksamkeit für das Detail war außergewöhnlich. Sie hatte eindeutig die Noten des Komponisten unter ihren Fingern und seine besonderen Klangfarben der Erinnerung verpflichtet."
Emily spielte in den U.S.A und Europa Konzerte und auf Festivals für Kammer Musik, experimenteller Musik und Rock-Musik. Im September 2011 hatte sie ihr klassisches Vocal Debut zusammen mit Jessica´s Pavones Song Cycle in New York, ein Konzert, welches von der Jerome Foundation finanziert wurde. Sie führte bereits Arbeiten von John Luther Adams, Kyle Gann, Susie Ibarra, Matthew Welch, Aaron Siegel und Rodney Sharman auf.
Ihre Abschlüsse machte sie am New England Conservatory, Oberlin Conservatory of Music und an der Columbia Universität.
Im Moment lebt und arbeitet sie in New York, wo sie regelmäßig als klassische Solo- und Kammer Musikern auftritt. 2009 wurde ihrer Aufnahmen zum kompletten Werk von Anton Webern für Soprano und Piano auf dem SHSKH Label veröffentlicht und ernteten internationale Beachtung. Außerdem kann sie als Gast-Musikerin auf Alben von Oakley Hall (Merge), Oneida (Jahjahuar) und dem kommenden Roots (Def Jam) Album gehört werden. Sie hat eine langjährige Zusammenarbeit mit dem Video-Künstler Paul Rowley, u.a. für die Musik seines Films "The Rooms" welcher jüngst Premiere im Centre Pompidou feierte. Emily ist Gründungsmitglied von Till by Turning, einem Ensemble, welches sich der Entwicklung von Bildungsmöglichkeiten im Bereich von neuer Musik widmet. Im Januar 2012 wird Emily beginnen, die kompletten Chopin Preludes einzuspielen und aufzunehmen, welcher sie größte Beachtung schenkt. Peter Kerlin ist Musiker, Künstler und Lehrer. Seine musikalischen Projekte sind u.a. Source of Yellow, Christmas Decorations, Christy&Emily und sein Solo-Projekt "Snake Eats Electric Blanket".
Als Musiker hat Peter bereits mit u.a. Chris Forsyth, Ryan Sawyer, the Holy Childhood, Chris Peck, Ted Lei, Mike Pride, Nate Wooley, Susan Alcorn, Jon Moniaci, Walter Martin, Mac St. Michael und anderen gespielt und zusammen gearbeitet. Peter ist gleichzeitig Audio-Ingenieur für den alle zwei Wochen erscheinenden Contemporary Art Podcast auf Radio Visual.Außerdem nahm er Emily Manzo´s Filmmusik für Paul Rowleys "The Rooms" auf. Er entwarf Video und Sound Stücke für Samuel Topary´s Stück "Landscape with The Fall of Icarus", unter der Regie des Tanzkünstlers Miguel Gutierez.
Peter arbeitet auch mit seiner Frau, der Choreografin Anna Sperber zusammen, und entwickelt seit 2003 dafür Sound und Video Material. Ihr gemeinsames Abendstück "The Tiger Situation" wurde 2007 auf dem Dance Theater Workshop gezeigt. Ihr Video "Between Scans" aus dem Jahre 2008 wurde im Online Magazin Triple Canopy gefeatured. 2005 arbeitete er als Videoproduzent für The Builders Association an ihrem Multi-Media Theater Stück "Supervision".
Kristin Mueller ist Schlagzeugerin und Tontechniker, und arbeitet für das New York Public radio. Sie spielte und spielt aktuell für u.a. Christy&Emily, Hidden Driveways, Lucinda Black Bear, Clare Burson and The Caufiled Sisters.Sie arbeitete mit dem Komponisten Michael Hearst auf dem Album "Songs for Unusual Creatures" zusammen, auf welchem Musikroboter (Lemurbots) getriggerte Beats und Melodien spielen. Desweiteren spielte sie bereits Schlagzeug mit der Künstlerin Cynthia Hopkins in der Band Gloria Delux. Zusätzlich war diese Zusammenarbeit auch Teil der Operette "Accidental Nostalgia" welche 2005 einen Bessie Award erhalten hatte. Kristin spielt Gitarre wie Jimi Hendrix (right handed upside down) und hat eine aktive Solo-Karriere als Singer-Songwriter.
Musikalische Normen von Folk und Avantgarde werden von Christy & Emily gesprengt. Was auch kein Wunder ist, wenn eine Autodidaktin an Gitarre und Mini-Schlagzeug aus Kalifornien (Christine Edwards) und die bereits mehrfach ausgezeichnete klassische Pianistin mit Schwerpunkt Neue Musik, Emily Manzo aus Ohio aufeinandertreffen. New Yorker Exzentrik und der Hang zu bizarrer Melancholie paaren sich dabei auf einmalige Weise mit romantischer Poesie und liebevoll intonierter Sehnsucht nach traditioneller amerikanischer Folkmusik.

Christy Edwards and Emily Manzo are veteran members of the New York/Brooklyn music scene. In 2007 Christy&Emily released their first record, “Gueen’s Head” on the Social Registry label. This was followed by a European tour supporting British cult heroes, the Nightingales. In 2009 they released their second record, “Superstition”, on Nightingale’s lead singer Robert Lloyd’s own label, Big Print. Another result of this relationship was an introduction to Hans Joachim Irmler, legendary keyboardist of Faust. They recorded their third effort, No Rest, in his Klangbad studio, and released it on that label in 2010. In 2011 they returned to Klangbad with bass player Peter Kerlin and drummer Kristin Mueller to record a brand new album to be released in early 2012.
Christy Edwards learned to play guitar at the age of 16 from a Metallica “Ride The Lightning” tablature book. She has played guitar and drums in numerous projects over the years including the bands the Lil Fighters, the Sumerians, The Totallys, and the Nightingales. She mentors in an after school program called the Vibe Songmakers, helping students to write their own songs. Her animated videos for the C&E have premiered on the TheFader. and Tiny Mix Tapes websites. Her drawings have been shown and sold at the Scope Art Fair in New York City.
Kyle Gann of the Village Voice has called Emily Manzo a “dynamite young pianist,” and the New York Times praised a recent performance of hers with these words: "Ms. Manzo’s attention to detail was exceptional; clearly, she had the composer’s notes under her fingers and his particular timbres committed to memory." Emily has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe in concerts and festivals of chamber music, experimental music and rock music. In September of 2011 she made her classical vocal debut with Jessica Pavone’s song cycle at Roulette in New York City, a concert funded by the Jerome Foundation. She has premiered the works of John Luther Adams, Kyle Gann, Susie Ibarra, Matthew Welch, Aaron Siegel and Rodney Sharman. Her degrees were earned at the New England Conservatory, the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Columbia University. She currently resides in New York where she performs regularly as a classical solo and chamber musician. In 2009 her recordings of the complete works of Anton Webern for soprano and piano on the SHSKH label was met with international acclaim. She can also be heard as a guest on the recordings of Oakley Hall (Merge), Oneida (Jagjaguar) and on the forthcoming Roots album (Def Jam). She has a long-term collaboration with video artist Paul Rowley, including a film score for his feature-length work, The Rooms, which recently had it’s premiere at the Centre Pompidou. Emily is a founding member of Till by Turning, an ensemble dedicated to developing educational resources for new music. In January 2012 Emily will begin recording the complete Chopin Preludes using two different spaces to highlight her narrative approach to these works. Peter Kerlin is a musician, artist, and teacher. His ongoing musical projects include Source of Yellow, Christmas Decorations, Christy & Emily, and his solo project, Snake Eats Electric Blanket. As a musician Peter has also performed, recorded, and collaborated with Chris Forsyth, Ryan Sawyer, the Holy Childhood, Chris Peck, Ted Leo, Mike Pride, Nate Wooley, Susan Alcorn, Jon Moniaci, Walter Martin, Mac St. Michael, and others. Peter is the audio engineer for the bi-weekly contemporary art podcast, Radio Visual. He recorded Pianist/Composer Emily Manzo's score for The Rooms, a film by Paul Rowley and Tim Blue. He created video and sound components for Samuel Topiary's play, Landscape with The Fall of Icarus, directed by dance artist Miguel Gutierez. Peter has been collaborating with his wife, choreographer, Anna Sperber, creating sound and video accompaniment since 2003. Their evening length work, The Tiger Situation, was presented in 2007 at Dance Theater Workshop. Their video, Between Scans (2008), was featured in issue 5 of the online magazine, Triple Canopy. In 2005 He worked as a video associate for The Builders Association on their multi-media theater work Supervision.
Kristin Mueller is a drummer and sound engineer, who works often with NY public radio. Some of her past and current projects are Christy&Emily, Hidden Driveways, Lucinda Black Bear, Clare Burson and The Caufield Sisters. She collaborated with composer Michael Hearst on the album "Songs for Unusual Creatures" which features musical robots (LEMURBOTS) that play triggered beats and melodies. She played drums with artist Cynthia Hopkins in the band Gloria Delux, which has released five studio albums. In addition it was an integral part of the operetta, Accidental Nostalgia, which received a Bessie Award in 2005. She also plays guitar like Jimi Hendrix (right handed upside down) and has an active solo career as a singer songwriter.
